The Overwhelming EP

Faces forming in windows watch the night fall Sirens and birdsong but mostly there’s no sound at all Planets are spinning in silence away up above Formed out of traces we make ourselves up out of dust And we’re so overwhelmed, by the overwhelming Yeah we were waiting for something like this to come round Yeah we were praying for something to slow it all down Galaxies forming in silence a way up above Made out of traces and fragments of dust from the stars We’re so overwhelmed by the overwhelming Caught on the camera your face when the program just froze the places that you go are somewhere I know Sitting in ghost towns we haunt our own lives but, you know? We watch what we show We watch what we show And we’re so overwhelmed, when the world keeps turning And so consumed, by the fire that’s burning And so charged up, when everything is changing When we’re back on the streets yeah, we’re gonna be amazing…. Sitting in ghost towns we haunt our own lives but, you know? We watch what we show We watch what we show And we’re so overwhelmed, when the world keeps turning And so consumed, by the fire that’s burning And so charged up, when everything is changing When we’re back on the streets yeah, we’re gonna be amazing….

about

Taken and condensed from Nick Powell’s acclaimed ‘Walls Fall Down’ LP, infectious track ‘The Overwhelming (Radio Edit)’ takes the weirdness of all our last years and swells into a rush of adrenaline over its 4 and a half minutes supported by Goldfrapp and Massive Attack cohort Alex Lee’s mighty guitar work and soaring choral backing vocals from Una Palliser.
The EP is completed with 2 new dance mixes of the track by Lord Fader, the shady alter ego of actor Ben Miles (The Crown) with whom Powell collaborated on Sam Mendes’ theatrical sensation ‘The Lehman Trilogy’. His ‘The Amber Salon Rework’ starts like a night out with Arab Strap and builds to an Acid-laced climax, while the ‘Tear This Ship Apart Edit’ goes further into the night and, in the words of the actor ‘would get you into trouble if you stayed out too late with it.’
